我又生病了。。。

我还没有忘记我的2010新年愿望。。。

希望能活得健康一点,少点生病。。。我真的不想一直吃药!

Bag Shopping

I must be getting old. I cannot shop as much as I used to be able to.

Initially the plan was to get 姐a new bag. For the longest of time, she's been wanting to buy a Longchamp Le Pliage, but had never gotten round to it.

The ironic thing is... none of the new colors suit her. And she ended up buying a Agnes b voyage dumpling instead. (-__-") 姐 being 姐, she ended up with the most boring color - black!

She's very happy with her loot. Of course lah! I paid part of it as her birthday present leh! Plus Agnes b is having a 10% storewide sales.

Me, totally tired out, needa to sit and chill out with umeshu on the rock~ I'm wearing the scoop neck crochet top from J'adore Couture. Love their service & their clothes!

In memory of Heath Ledger

Movie of the moment: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

credits:wikipedia

Heath Ledger's last film... I almost had a heart attack seeing him as the Hanged Man... as though it was a premonition. This film was filmed halfway when Heath Ledger passed away. I was glad the film made it and Heath Ledger was able to give the world his last show.

Admittedly, I wanted to watch this show because there's Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and even Colin Farrell. I had no idea what the show was about before.

The plot was interesting, the idea, refreshing. I'll even go so far as to say the show was rather uniquely-quirky. But at the end of the show, seriously, I don't know what to make of it. Hmmm...

Bento Takeout @ Niwa Sushi

Lately I've been obsessing with charaben (read: cutesy Japanese packed lunch). Check out Bento Central for "anything and everything you need to know about bento". Actually I was led to this site when I was browsing all the lovely bento pictures at Adventures in Bentomaking. Looking at all the beautiful pictures made me crave for my very own bento.

Before I can start making my very own, I bought one for lunch at Niwa Sushi. Never mind their site though, apparently it's still under construction. I'm not sure if this is a newly set up sushi place, but the one I went to is located at the end of CityLink, very near the exit towards Suntec. They are having a 10% discount during lunch time 12noon to 2pm.

I was a little disappointed with the service when they couldn't be a bit more flexible since I was there on the dot. 2pm that is. They informed me that their cashier clock showed that it was already over 2pm.

Magnetic Bling

老婆got me a bling bling magnetic hair clip!

Isn't it cute?

Ricciotti's Sweets

One of my favourite places for cakes has got to be Ricciotti.

There is quite a wide variety of cakes and desserts, but somehow I always end up ordering the Tiramisu.

Nyan~~~

Anime of the moment: Nyan Koi!

credits:wikipedia

Typical harem anime, with a slightly different plot. Actually I'm quite sick of harem anime where you have one male/female lead character (usually male though) who is not so good looking, not so perfect, not so amazing, with all the other characters of the opposite sex (in this case, all the females) falling in love with the lead... Some rather willingly and openly, some rather reluctantly, often complaining about how bad or irritating or [insert something negative] the lead character is.

Luckily, this is a 12-episode anime. Luckily, there are lots of funny bits. Luckily, the plot is slightly different from the usual harem anime. In the end, I rather enjoyed it. Though I wouldn't want to sit through it again.

This is the kind of anime where you can watch and you're too bored. But there are other better anime out there.

Dinner @ Blue Basil

Before you can start enjoying all the lovely food I'm gonna cover here, you'll need to find your way down to Blue Basil. The address says 56 Cairnhill Road and unless you drive, it might be relatively difficult to find your way down there. Excluding the time getting lost, you'll need to walk a good 10 mins from Orchard MRT. Frankly, Blue Basil might have enjoyed a better flow of business if they were located somewhere more accessible. By the time we reached the place, we were all feeling hot and bothered, and HUNGRY, thinking, "The food better be worth it!!!"

It was a pretty small cosy place with simple black and orange-themed decor.

Looking at the menu, I would say they are pretty vegetarian friendly. They have this Exotic Vegetables on Lava Stone Grill (read: grilled zucchini and sweet peppers) as a main course which I was pretty keen to try. Maybe we can go try it the next time you're here, Adaline!

And did I ever mention that I have a thing for mushrooms? So definitely one of the must-order for me was their Grilled Portobello Mushrooms even though it wasn't one of the chef's recommendation.

Cheer up

It's funny how little things get at me every single time. Shihui got me a little Christmas present but we haven't got the chance to meet up until recently.

It's just something small, but I love it~~~

Celebrations

Celebrated 姐's birthday @ this new shabu shabu restaurant. Food and service wasn't exactly fantastic, but we had fun~~~

老婆的生日

老婆,祝你生日快乐!!!

Rive Gauche's Longan Almond

I've always been a fan of Rive Gauche's cheesecakes, but this is the first time I'm trying their Longan Almond cake.

Disco Ball

Happy birthday Carol~~~

Check out her "disco ball"~~~ 真是幸福的女人!

Mel's Birthday

Celebrated Mel's birthday @ her new house.

Something simple, but we had lots of fun!

Peking Duck

What's a shopping mall if it's without a good food hall?

I especially love the food hall at Ion Orchard because they have such a wide variety of yummy looking stuff! The best part is, because they all come in small bit size pieces, you'll get to try as many different kind of yummies all within a day.

One of my favourite is this!

Paradise

Thank you for bringing me to Paradise~~~

Kampfer

Anime of the moment: Kampfer

No plot, no storyline, no nothing. Okay... there's a bit of fan service but that's about it. Don't bother wasting your time watching this 12-episode anime unless you're really really bored.

Really... don't bother...

Komala's Takeaway

One of my favourite lunchtime takeaway has got to be Komala's. It's an Indian vegetarian (good news Adaline!) fastfood restaurant.

I usually order the Bhattura value meal which costs only S$7.10. Basically Bhattura is made up of plain flour. There are no fillings inside, unlike the Dosai, which is another one of my favourite. All you get for your Bhattura is onions and green chilli, with curry sauce full of aromatic Indian spices and the "yellow Kachang Puteh beans". This time round I've forgotten to request for more green chilli.

Do not be deceived into thinking that this is just another "kosong" prata. If you eat your Bhattura at Komala's itself, it is actually a gigantic puffed up dome-like thingy! One of the perks of eating the Bhattura is enjoying it in its original puffy form. When you do takeaways, you forgo that enjoyment.

The yummy Bhattura value meal also comes with thickly-cut fries, peppered with curry spices and a soft drink. Be warned though, this meal is not meant for someone with a small appetite.

No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti

Movie of the moment: 不能没有你

credits:blog.taiwan-guide.org

A Taiwanese art film, the whole show was shot in black and white. It basically tells the story of how a poor man survives in this cruel world with his daughter. Life starts to get difficult for them when the authorities found out about his daughter who wasn't registered to study in any school.

The film explores some of the common themes like red tape among government authorities, poverty, and love. Even though the love between father and daughter was not explicitly displayed, it was obvious. I cried about seeing how the father struggles for his daughter's future.

I came out of the show with a heavy heart, though it was more or less a sort-of happy ending. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.

O levels

JY got A1 for her Literature in the 'O' levels! I'm so proud of her!

From a C5 to an A1, that's fantastic! Actually I did witness your improvement from her mid years to her prelims. All we do all day is just talk and talk and talk. Sometimes I stayed way over time because I couldn't finish talking.

Well, it was worth it.

I wouldn't promise definite good results, because I always tell my kids I can only do so much. The rest is up to them. They've got to do their part as well. Otherwise, I'm just wasting my effort. Yeah, I'm getting paid for these efforts but I always feel sad when my kids don't improve much.

Maybe because JY is very hardworking. But she definitely deserve the A1!

This may be the sign that I'm looking for...

Obolo's Noisette

Getting a birthday cake? Then you might want to consider Obolo, especially if price is not a problem. Obolo hosts a wide selection of cakes, cheesecakes, desserts, and macarons for you to choose from.

I opted for the more conservative choice of choco/hazelnut cake. The description reads "Dark chocolate mousse, caramelized toasted hazelnuts, crunchy praline feullitine, chocolate genoise enrobed in a shiny chocolate glaem".

Plain as it might look, a generous dose of gold dust on the surface makes quite a bit of difference. The overall presentation was simple and clean cut.

Upon cutting the Noisette, the mousse was found to be soft and slightly moist but not so much that everything falls apart. It was paradoxically soft yet firm. Carve a tiny piece with your little fork and put it in your mouth, and you'll be greeted with a wholesome melt-in-your-mouth sensation. After which, the contrasting sensation of the "crunchy praline feullitine" felt especially irresistible.

Best part of all is that the Noisette is neither too sweet nor too bland which makes it suitable for people of all ages, especially older people. It is also very light, which makes you want to go for that second helping.

Ordering a cake is extremely easy as all can be done online. Opt for the delivery if you do not own a car or even if you do, if you're not familiar with the Joo Chiat area. We took about an hour or so navigating which made the driver exclaimed, "The cake better be worth it!" It was. But next time, I'm opting for delivery.

Yes, there will be a next time. According to a friend, the macarons there are delicious. And I have yet to try their speciality, cheesecakes, yet!

And since V day is just round the corner, they've got a special limited edition creation V day cake in the shape of a heart. You might want to book early though as there are only 50 cakes available for ordering. Now is probably the best time to drop a hint!

Longchamp

Because Jo's been asking about my Longchamp Le Pliage bags, and I've also received quite a number of requests, I'll be addressing them all in this post~

New Year New Tags

Last year, 老婆got both of us new tags to put our office pass in. It was a super early Vday gift from her.

This was mine. Super old already.

This year, we began the search for new tags. 老婆got us both a lanyard each, but we had problem finding suitable casing to go with the lanyards.

I was super excited today when I found the right ones.

Kawaii? The Hello Kitty one is for 老婆because her fav color is red! I got the Kuromi for myself! So excited! Can't wait to use it!

Happy Birthday 大姑妈!

我们一起庆祝大姑妈的生日。她看起来非常开心, 希望她也和我一样的享受这一餐!

Happy Birthday 大姑妈!

Long Flights

I hate long flights. In fact, I hate flying. There's something about being in the air with nothing under your feet that always gives me the jitters. It makes me feel damn insecure. And then there's the helplessness when you encounter turbulence. So now is the time to say I wish I have some magical skills... teleporting would be great.

Anyway after sitting still for almost 8 hours behind this inconsiderate Jap ojisan who pushed his seat all the way back, and me literally having the tiny TV right in my face and my food right on my lap, this was a very rewarding view. Not rewarding enough though.

But something about seeing the first sunrise in Japan, even though knowing damn well it's the same old sun, it got me excited.

おみやげ

Something I got for 老婆for Christmas from Japan...

It can't be seen clearly coz of the reflection, but the other half of the heart is black with gold trimmings. I find it utterly pretty~~~ Only when I came back did I remember I've already gotten her a Tiffany heart key ring before.

(@_@)

おまもり

Something I bought for the girls & 姐from Japan.

I love おまもり!!! No guesses the 恋爱 one goes to who~ May you find your Mr Right soon!

♥♥♥

好开心。。。走了一整天的路,看了很多美丽东西。好多猴子。。。

谢谢Mrこいびと给我这么好玩的一天!

New Year

In Japan, the start of a new calendar year holds much more significance than just the start of a new year. It is much like our Chinese New Year, where most Japanese return back to their hometown to celebrate the new year with their family.

The day begins with a trip to the local shrine. Usually you can see many Japanese women deck out in their exquisite kimonos as they make their way down to pray for safety, happiness, or longevity. Already while I was there in Decemeber, some random few obasans were spotted in their beautiful kimonos at the shrines, after which they dropped by the local kimono shop to have their new year outfit made.

It's the time of the year where it's really cold in Japan. While I was there, almost all parts of Japan were experiencing heavy snow except Tokyo. It was an exceptionally cold winter for them.
