2009 Reflections

One more hour and it'll be the end of 2009.

Before I open my K-On! new year package from Japan, before I start celebrating a brand new year and life, I'd like to count my blessings and thank God for this year.

Lunch @ Paradise Inn

Step into Paradise Inn and be greeted with a whole range of matching Chinese cutleries and furnitures. As you sit down on little red stools, you'll be served freshly steamed peanuts. This is irregardless of whether you've placed any orders for it or not. Of course, at the end of the day when the bill comes, you'll then realised that the yummy peanuts which you so hungrily devoured while waiting for your food to arrive is not complimentary.

The Pandora Box

pGame of the moment: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

credits:wikipedia

Professor Layton is back!!! While some of the puzzles are rather challenging, the rest of them are much easier than the puzzles in Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

Did I also mention that the graphics are much better too?

I really like the story plot and this time round, there are more mini games, which are all rather interesting and fun! You get to collect ingredients along the way to brew tea for the characters you meet in town.

All in all, a very satisfying game!! When will the next Professor Layton be out? Can't wait!

Avatar

Movie of the moment: Avatar

credits:wikipedia

It's a looooooooong show! It's probably necessary, I guess. No point having a part 2 when you can just spend 1 hour more to finish up the story. Plus... if there's a part 2 I probably wouldn't want to sit through it.

So... what's all the hype about? I love the fantasy world created, the little details put into creating this world, this tribe. I love it how with every step you take, the ground kinda emits a bluish light. I love how you can connect to other beings with just a little flower-like thingy in your hair. I love the chants. I love the exotic new age songs.

There's action, there's fantasy, there's romance, all mesh into one. I wouldn't say it's a must-watch though. It was nice enough entertainment.

Merry Christmas~

Met up with Ada for Christmas!

Elementary, My Dear Watson...

Movie of the moment: Sherlock Holmes

credits:wikipedia

Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams... a very strong cast... and very well-casted too! Plot is amazingly well paced, you'll never be bored for a moment. I love that Robert Downey Jr is the one playing Sherlock Holmes, and he certainly exudes the right kind of charm. I love the boxing scene where Sherlock was calculating how much to retaliate and everything goes slow-mo. And then when he actually did do it, the whole scene changes to action.

Jude Law is one of my fav guys to watch out for. I love his image in this show with the moustache and all. I love how he plays Watson as a cool guy, as though nothing fazes him. I love it the Watsons character basically. Though I'm not too sure what his love affair has got to do with the plot.

I've been looking out for Rachel McAdams since The Notebook. Her sweet looks is very suitable for this role since it becomes very deceiving that a sweet girl like her can be so scheming. It becomes believable that she was able to outsmart someone as sharp as Sherlock Holmes.

Definitely a must-watch. And why do I get this feeling that there may be a part 2 coming up?

Dreams Do Come True!

Up till now I still cannot believe that I actually went Japan! I've always wanted to go, but somehow, never gotten round to it. Thank you Mr こいびと for making it possible and helping me realise my dream!

Bags!!!

I've always got a thing for bags. Some girls spend their money on cosmetics, some girls spend their money on shoes. I spend my money on bags~~~ If only money wasn't an issue, I would have bought all the nice bags I saw in Japan~~~

I got a new wallet~~~ after years of not using a proper wallet~~~
I'm back from Japan~~~

Babe Warriors

Anime of the moment: Shin Koihime Musou

credits:wikipedia

If you've watched season 1 - Koihime Musou, and like it, you'll probably like this too. Nothing much has changed. The same old characters (with one or two more new ones), but different adventure. There's something about pretty anime girls who can fight that appeals to me.

And when you get a whole cast of females, there's bound to be yuri content.

Still, I really like this. Action + comedy + fan service is definitely the formula to a successful anime!

Japan Japan Japan~~~

I'm leaving for Japan~! (\^v^/)

Gonna miss Baby! またね!!

Italian Mafia

Movie of the moment: Gomorrah

credits:wikipedia

Crime crosses all barrier. You don't need to understand Italian to be able to sense the tension throughout this film. Of course it helps that there are subtitles in English.

An eye-opener for someone holed up in safe, cozy little Singapore like me, I cannot even being to fathom having to lead a life as such, always having to check your back, always looking around you before dashing out of the house, always double locking your door and not let anyone you don't know it. And of course, statistics have already proven people are usually murdered by someone they know, not random strangers, which is even scarier.

I spent the whole film sitting on the edge of my chair, biting my nails and silently screaming "NOOOooooooo...."

Sebastian Michaelis

Anime of the moment: Kuroshitsuji

credits:wikipedia

I love it! 24 episodes of Kuroshitsuji and I haven't had enough. There's something about the black humor and all the eeriness floating around that is just so enchanting and intriguing.

What is black, what is white? Who is good, who is bad? Who to trust and who to depend upon?

This is an anime where the demons are the good guys and the angels are the bad guys. Interesting, isn't it?

First Love

Anime of the moment: Hatsukoi Limited

credits:wikipedia

This is those kinda light-hearted anime where you watched and laughed all at the funny, silly bits (it's a romantic comedy after all...) and then forget about it. Nothing impressionable, but I had fun.

Somehow I got this feeling the anime is targeted at the younger teenage girls. After, it's about first love.

Afa 09

Knowing that I'm such an おたく, Mr こいびとbrought me to AFA, despite him hating to be caught in crowded places. And thankfully for Mervyn, he was there early and was able to help us get tickets in advance!

It's decided. I've gotta do a cosplay at next year's Afa! (\^o^/)

2.0

Movie of the moment: Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance

credits:wikipedia

If you've watched Evangelion: 1.0, you would probably still be lost watching 2.0. If you've watched the anime series itself, I don't know... you might have a better idea.

Evangelion is one of the oldest mecha anime around, after Patlabor, before Gundam.

If you're watching for action, there are tons of them. More so than 1.0. But I've got a feeling, everything is not as straightforward as it seemed. There are some pretty existential stuff going on there which you'll have to read between the lines. Definitely not for the general audience, unless you're a die hard Evangelion fan, or an anime fan, or a Maaya Sakamoto fan (yes, she's one of the seiyuu~♥).

Miracle Train

Anime of the Moment: Miracle Train

credits:animenewsnetwork.com

This is a very unusual anime. The bishounen are actually train stations and they are on this Miracle Train waiting for troubled ladies to board the train. Each time, there can only be one "customer". And the guys will try to help these ladies solve their problem before the ladies can leave the Miracle Train.

Sometimes abit too slow pace, I'll only recommend this to a hardcore anime fan like myself. I found it quite useful actually to learn about the Oedo line in Japan and what each station/area is famous. It helps when they depict quite realistic drawings of the stations and the surroundings.

Ennio Marchetto

I really enjoyed the performance by Ennio Marchetto.

Thank you Mr こいびと~~~ ♪

Happy Halloween

It's Halloween, and also our 3rd anniversary.

Melaka Road Trip

Going for a 2nd round of wedding for Felix & Chernin in Melaka.

Along the way, our van broke down on the highway somewhere between Johor and Melaka. So I was able to take some nice pictures with my Eximus.

Captain's Ball

Despite my sprained ankle, I'm still fighting for the Captain's Ball champion. Last year, we almost won. So all of us were quite determined to get the champions this time round!

We won in the end! やった!!!

Felix + Chernin

This is the 3rd consecutive weekend wedding I'm attending. October seems like a good month to get married!

Cooking Mama 3~~~

Game of the moment: Cooking Mama 3

credits:wikipedia

It's out! Fans of Cooking Mama will be very happy to know that Cooking Mama 3 is out and it's better than before!

Certainly there are changes, or rather improvements, to the game play. The way you chop your veggies also get more realistic (read: more difficult). There's one particular Smoked Rainbow Trout, where one of the stages of cooking is you sun the trouts on a bar. It is especially difficult because while hanging up your trouts, you gotta make sure the rest of the trouts on the bar don't drop. It took me a number of times before I managed to get a perfect score for this dish!

There's also a reason why Cooking Mama 3 is called Shop & Chop. There's a "Shop" mini game, which is quite annoying and difficult!

If you haven't gotten sick of Cooking Mama yet, this will be THE game.

Mel's gonna be a Mrs

On Mel's actual day, I have to wake up super early like 5am, because I was one of the姐妹... really lack of sleep!

Dokapon!

Game of the moment: Dokapon Journey

Another RPG which I quite enjoyed.

The best part is that you can wifi-play with another player and saved the game play anytime! Had tons of fun playing with Mr こいびと~~~

Congratulations!

I quite like the Father who did the morning wedding mass for cousin Haw. His homily was quite amusing and interesting! Not what I'm used to hearing at weddings.

Surrogates

Movie of the moment: Surrogates

credits:wikipedia

See Bruce Willis in his younger, digitally enhanced form., in Surrogates. A typical sci-fi film, it actually has quite an interesting plot. I also like th idea of having an alternate self where people can actually lost themselves in.

If you think about it, it's very much like the present. Everyone walking around the streets with a mask on. Just that many years down the road, when technology actually allows it, people get to walk around the streets with literal masks bodies on. Nothing else has changed.

Though typical, I quite enjoyed the show. I may be bias but anything film with Bruce Willis in it, can't really be too bad!

Song of the moment: Hot 'N' Cold by Katy Perry

I'm so in love with her songs!!!

Claire de Lune

Movie of the moment: Tokyo Sonata

credits:wikipedia

A film about a dsyfunctional Japanese family, the execution was creative and sometimes, WTF. The film was full of contradictions. It was funny, yet not so funny, serious, but yet not so serious, amusing, yet empathetic.
My fav part was Claire de Lune. Somehow, the music bring out the whole mood of the film and you feel all the different feelings all at once. It was magnificent beyond words and it touched my heart. And of course, I cried...

Life is short...

三舅passed away after a long fight with cancer. I wasn't too close with him, but he's family after all. It doesn't feel good to lose a loved one. His daughter, my cousin, is just one year younger than me and I can't imagine losing my dad now. So I can't even begin to imagine her pain at losing her father.

K-On!

Anime of the moment: K-On!

credits:wikipedia

One of my fav anime since Lucky Star. I'm not too sure what was it that attracted me to K-On!... maybe it's something to do with Yui being such an airhead, or Mio being such a cute moe~ or maybe it's gotta do with Sawakoせんせいbeing such a cosplay fanatic!

I thoroughly enjoyed all 13 episodes, though I must admit things start to get a little draggy near the end, but I still love it! If you're an anime fan, and got a thing for MAIDS (see Mio cosplay as a maid~~~ MOE~~~), this is the anime for you!

Happy Birthday My Dear Baby ♥♥♥

おめでと!!!

Baby, I love you~~~♥♥♥ always & forever~~~♥♥♥

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... 9~!

Movie of the moment: 9

credits:wikipedia

Interesting, fun and very thought provoking, 9 brings you on an adventure. There's really nothing not to like about 9.

I like it that each of the "doll" has their individual characteristics, and also how each doll is made different from the other. You can see how technology, trial and error, enhancements, have evolved the dolls from 1 all the way to 9. What worked, is kept, while what didn't worked, has been improved on, or changed. Quite the attention to details.

Out of the 9, I'm not too sure who is my fav! Probably, 8, who is a little himbo-ish, a little cute, and a little not too bright. Too bad he didn't hang around long enough. =X

Have you ever feel so lost?

Song of the moment: Lost by Katy Perry

I've been listening to Lost on repeat. There's something nostalgically charming about this song.

Baseball~

Anime of the moment: Taishou Yakyuu Musume

credits:wikipedia

Taishou Yakyuu Musume is not your typical kinda shoujo anime. This anime features a group of girls living in the feudal Edo period in Japan where girls playing sports is being frowned upon. But because girls have their pride too, and they don't really like being told they are the weaker sex, they decided to form a proper baseball team to challenge the guys who looked down on them.

It's funny, interesting, and entertaining to watch. You get exposed to olden Japanese culture, where the popular sailor uniform is considered too westernised for proper female to wear since it exposes too much skin. Girls can't hold hands with guys. The closest you can get is to allow the guy to hold your handkerchief while you hold on to your end.

Plus, I love sports anime!

Yeah~~~

Thank you RH for the "present" from Hong Kong~~~

Ion

I haven't visited Ion since it opened. So when 姐wanted to meet up for my birthday, I suggested going Ion.

I was more interested in the food hall rather than the shops. So excited to see a store selling たいやき, since I've been craving for it for some time already.

District 9

Movie of the moment: District 9

credits:wikipedia

One word. Disturbing! Okay, maybe two words. Ultra Disturbing!!

For one, it feels pretty realistic. For another, some of the scenes are not exactly... nice. I like the execution at the start where it feels like a documentary, and the host goes around interviewing different people, getting their views.

I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy the film, but I felt rather disturbed and unsettled after watching.

Horror too close to heart?

わたしのたんじょうび

Mrこいびとoffered to sponsor a chalet for my birthday, so that I can invite family & friends. Plus... a chance to BBQ. 我的最爱!!!

Up, up and away~

Movie of the moment: Up

credits:wikipedia

I watched Up in 3D. It was fun and funny. Though, I would rather prefer the film not to be too overexposed by trailers. All the funny bits were in the trailer, and when you actually watch the show, somehow, it became not as funny anymore.

I can see why it was THE film, and the very first animated one to open the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

"Thank you for the adventure. Now go have one of your own."

Welcome to Phuket~!

玩得非常开心!谢谢你,Mrこいびと!

The room smell damn nice... because the aromatherapy oil was already burning in the room, waiting to welcome us.

Counting Down...

Next week this time I should be sipping champagne in our own little jacuzzi in Phuket~~~! ^-^

Feel so unprepared. Haven't bought the films for my underwater camera yet!

Hangover

Movie of the moment: The Hangover

credits:wikipedia

I like the sequence of the plot. Well thought out and fast paced enough without the nitty gritty stuff in between. The story is bizarre and they probably can get away with it because it is Vegas.

It's a film where you go in... laugh about all the stupid stuff... and then forget about it. That's pretty much it. Entertaining no less.

Wolfblade

Book of the moment: Wolfblade by Jennifer Fallon

credits:jennifer fallon

Finished this rather thick book within two days because it's quite enticing. Especially if you're someone who loves reading Fantasy like me. Though not as good as David Eddings, it kept me occupied and entertained.

Shall start looking for the 2nd book of this trilogy.

Ahem~!

Am so excited and looking forward to the Phuket trip!!! Can't wait for August to come!

Boys Over Flowers

Drama of the moment: Boys Over Flowers

credits:koreatimes.co.kr

Ji Hoo sunbaeeeeee~~~ I soooooo in love with his gentle nature, sweet smile... and his faithfulness.

I hadn't intended to watch this because initially I thought the girl lead not attractive. Plus I didn't wanna go through another series of this in another language. Elissa was raving about it though. Then I finished all my anime series and was left with nothing to watch... so I decided to give this a try.

It was something I haven't regretted. Though the main storyline and character traits follow the original quite closely, the series adapt quite alot of stuff to fit in their very own Korean culture, which I think is very nice! Plus all four F4 guys got enough coverage in here, and not just the curly hair Jun Pyo and the gentle Ji Hoo.

Another plus, this is the best F4 combi I've seen. Taiwan, Japan and Korea... the Korean F4 won hands down! How can all four guys be so utterly attractive! OMG!

Ee Jung sunbae has that wonderful smirk-smile which I can't help falling for! Woo Bin sunbae got that quiet, silly aura about him that's just so attractive, especially when he fights... so cute!!! Of course, there's Jun Pyo the lead guy... probably the only lead guy who can carry off that curly hair look and not look stupid.

I'm not forgetting the girls either. Jan Di, Gae Eul, Jae Kyung... I like them all!!!

Plus, Jan Di's parents are my fav Korean "dad" and "mum"!

Well developed plot and well developed characters. Very well done! Now I'm craving for some Korean food~~~

Bye Bye... Black Bird

Movie of the moment: Public Enemies

credits:wikipedia

I was sooooo looking forward to this... because it's Johnny Depp! But... I was disappointed... Honestly I've seen him in better roles.

Merit... Johnny Depp's love interest in the show was quite attractive I find. Other than that... I really couldn't think of anything else. The movie was exceptionally long, think 2 half hours or so... with a rather meaningless plot line... or rather the script wasn't that well written. Love the OST though.

Tummy tummy be gone~!

I've decided to start my diet plans already. Otherwise I won't be in time for our upcoming Phuket trip. How to appear in a bikini with a protruding tummy? But before that, I gotta go satisfy my craving for crabs first!!!

The things aging does to you. So sad...
